As England fans, Ross and I getting our name into the England Fanzine for the Ecuador game on the 25th June 2006 was a nice touch even if it was for a DAFT PHOTOGRAPH :-)

After missing 4 weeks due to international commitments, I was in England playing with the pals thier, this was my first game back.  While I was away the team had done themselves proud earning 7/9 points (1 game being postponed due to rain).

I enjoyed the game, although by half time I thought I might fall over I was so knacked.  by then I had already had 1 very good chance, that I should have done so much better on, and a pot shot.  The same was true from the second half.  Another result that didn’t reflect the skill of the team, again the opposition were more physical, too physical and I probably won 6 free kicks in one game, which is proof alone that this team was dirty.

Let’s be fair, Sunday was a bad result.  I can’t say anyone had a bad game and I thought we matched them.  I think the difference was that they had set pieces well practiced, I found marking them on corners very difficult, and they got that first goal which was a bit against play.  Essentially every time we got into their third they chopped us down and so they could afford to flood the attack when they knew they would have time to fall back while we organised the free kick.

We might have won last week but it appears to have cost me.  I remember this hurting at the time and I seem to recal being whacked above the ankle.  So why the bruise on my foot?

Off to a flying start with some neat passing and soon had their defence on the back foot.  I recieved a great through ball from Paul and crossed it for itch to slot it home.  I then took some studs accross the boots and lost my lace.  Coming off for George after 10 minutes and watching from the side it was clear that we needed to take advantage of the conditions in the first half, but we failed and we came off at the break at 1-0.  Having come on for the injured Mag as our fill in centre-back just before the break I got a good view of all four goals.  3 were basic errors and mistakes.  I allways see an individuals mistake as the team fault, but to be punished fo all 3 got a few heads to drop.

Well it is about time.  So they only had 9 men, but we won and that is that.  It was at home for me, well I can walk to the oval, and while I perhaps played 60 minutes, we did have pleanty of subs and the coach used them well.

Hatrick from Jimmi, and one from Arron.

Liverpool 4 – 4 Chesterfield

I had been following Chesterfield for 2 years when this draw came out of the bag.  The 1992 season was I real highlight for me, it was pre-premiership and Sky destroying the game for fans, I bought my first season ticket, I went to every cup game home & away, including Lincoln at home with about 1000 other fans in the Layland Daf;  those were the days!

So building up to this game was we beat York in the previous round and I remember getting back from the Away leg just in time for the draw.  On the day of the game the coaches left at about 5pm and so I had to get out of school and I remember going up to the admin building to sign out for my “dentist appointment” and there were about 5 other kids doing the same thing.  I was only 15 at the time but I don’t remembering asking my parents if this was OK, it was understood that I was going to this game.

The trip to the match was uneventfully until we got a to Anfield and some kids were hurling rocks at our buses.  I was by myself as all my friends who went to the game were Liverpool fans, as is life.

The game was without question one of the best I have ever been too. To go 3-0 up against the FA cup holders and what is more at Anfield.

What a disappointment!  The result that is, oh and my fitness :-( .  I managed the first 45 and then about 20 minutes in the second half.  It is just non-stop in mid-field and there are only 3 of us.  No excuses mind you and I do plan to address this with more running this week.

As for the game.  their goals were both pretty lucky.  The first was a 30 yard daisy cutter that found the right side of the post. The second goal was a dodgy pen.  Jia says it didn’t hit his hand and he has no reason to say otherwise.  I don’t think any of my team mates would lie.  Our goal was from Jimmy, a great bit of running to allow me tho thread a pass to him.  We played well together when we could link up, but I just can’t get up enough.

2-1 and I was disapointed becuase we still haven’t won and 2 games in a row where we could, and should have.

Played almost a full game, but needed a 5 minute rest half way through the second half.  Playing in  defensive midfield the game wasn’t a bad one and although we went 1-0 down we really should have bagged a dozen with all the chances we squandered.  I am guilty and really should have done more with my chances in front of goal.

Hurt when they go an equalizer in the last minute.   I pushed the striker wide but he put the ball across the box well and it was scuffed over the line.
